Reggie Miller was more of a scorer than a stealer in his NBA days. But now that he’s retired, he’s taken to swiping a few of the promotional products that he wears in Wendy’s ads.
The NBA Hall of Famer is once again hitting the commentary booth for the NCAA Tournament this year, and is again working with Wendy’s for some tie-in ads, where he’s had to wear some specially made branded products like robes, pajamas and slippers. Some of those items might just have ended up in Miller’s backpack at the end of the shoot.
“Yes! I did get to keep the pajamas,” he told Fox Business. “A couple things I always do take from my Wendy’s shoots because they have these very cool glide-on slippers that you see in the commercials. I always find a way to kind of slip those in my bag. Don’t tell anyone, but the slippers are, like, that’s probably my No. 1 item I’m most proud about. I wouldn’t say stealing—I would say harboring those slippers.”
Honestly, Wendy’s probably isn’t too broken up that Miller is harboring those products. They’re probably onto something with the merch if an NBA legend is snagging it after a shoot. Plus, Miller going out of his way to talk about how great the products are gives Wendy’s even more brand exposure. Here’s the guy from the commercials choosing to wear Wendy’s pajamas even when he’s not being paid to do so!
“But another thing I like are the candy-striped pajamas because a lot of people say, ‘Oh my God did you go to Indiana University?’ because that’s kind of their warmup,” he said. “I see where they’re coming with that. But the colors are great. And yes, I do harbor a few things from the Wendy’s commercial. They find a way to make it into my bag. Miraculously! I don’t know how they get there.”
It’s a mystery! Wendy’s no doubt will continue to make plenty of Reggie Miller-sized promos for commercials—and maybe a few extra if they miraculously find their way to Miller’s home.
